Populations look healthy for squirrels, cottontails
LANSING -- Though grouse hunting gets most of the ink on the Sept. 15 opening of the small-game season, more people go into the woods after squirrels and rabbits. And the word from biologists and hunters is that there will be lots of squirrels and cottontails, but you might be disappointed if you've set your teeth for a dinner of snowshoe hare.
