Well, it's that time of year again. Yes, it's hard to believe, but hunting season is almost upon us! It's time to get prepared for fall hunting. Now is the time of year to start irritating the living heck out of the little lady. Now, I don't mean getting her down right pi$$ed off. I don't know about yours, but mine can get down right MEAN. (Wonder why???. ) I'm talking about starting with being mildly irritating and gradually building steam. I usually start with leaving things laying around, then go into my "being in the way" mode. I then start the fidgetting and pacing in front of her. I call my buddies in front of her and ask if they're going hunting, acknowledging they are (whether they are or not) to provide a little guilt in the mixture (We take turns calling each other). After a while, she's more than happy to get me out of the house. I've actually had her tell me once: "Will you get out of here and go deer hunting". I bowed my head, hunched my shoulders, gave a sad frown, and grabbed my gear and ran like he!!. ;)
How do you fellas get prepared for hunting season?

She's ready before I am, that includes the daughter too.
Each has their own equipment, guns, scopes, knives waders , rods etc ........... Once they got into the hunting and fishin gig, they started borrowing my stuff.
Whoaaaaaaaa Nadda. It took 30 years to get my gear, so now they are good to go with their own stuff. :)
Huntin season is a big deal around here, I'm pretty lucky to have 2 women in the house that loves the outdoors as much as I do.

When I saw the title I was expecting something a little different. Nine years ago I took my wife deerhunting with me and I have never regretted it!
If anything it has improved our relationship by giving us one more thing to share. In a few weeks my 14yr old daughter will hunt deer for the first time in Michigans youth hunt. For us deer hunting is a family thing and we realy enjoy it that way. For anyone who hasn't gone deer hunting with their spouse I'd say give it a try!:)

Kinda a funny. I was just telling the wife that I need a new pair of boot's  She responded "I thought that you bought new boot's last year?" "Well I did, but those are for the colder month's of hunting, plus ice fishing, I need a new pair for the early part of hunting, like October." "Oh, and I need some new wool sock's, long john's, fleece shirt's and pant's, turtle neck shirt's, and some glove's." :D
That is how I prepared her this year :D
Usually, she is more than eager to get me outa the house. Last year, she had all my thing's packed for me a week ahead of time, I didn't even go north. I just went and stayed at a buddies house for a few day's, only 30min from home

If you want to keep her happy you should try a different approach.
Every year I send my wife and her best friend on a trip. Whether it is to the mall of America for 3 days, or Vegas. I just scan the deals for last minute trips and send them the info. The trip usually runs $160-$250 each and covers airfare and hotel.
This way she has something to look forward too.
My wife and here mother are pretty supportive of my hunting. They even came to look for me a couple of years ago when I stayed out past dark to track a deer during archery. I knew when I say the headlights at the barn yard thay I may get a talking to.
She and her girl friends went to shopping girl camp near Frankenmuth this weekend. Hope she brings me back some fudge and Thunderheads.
Dogjaw, your portable cabin has sustained me through two off seasons. The pictures have inspired me to build a portable cabin on my hay wagon this year. Some of the features are a solid hardboard 4 panel siding from gable front end; 24 x 76 inch door;
six foot side walls with eight foot center ridge(required for the heavy Indiana Snow Load); tarp cover and a TSC box stove for heat and for frying steaks &baking potatoes.
I may even get an LP light installed above the door. What do you think? Should it be inside or outside?
This will be quite a step up from last year. "Man must evolve" That reminds me, I need a small ladder for the front of the waggon.

My wife needs no preparation. We went together 5 years before getting married (been married for 13 years now). This ensured that she knew what she was getting into. The world stops in my house from 10/1 - 1/1.

I always tell my wife. " you knew I was like this before you married me." She then reminds me that I wasnt "this much if a freek" when we first meet. :D
She is getting used to hunting season now.

My wife is always prepared for and very supportive. She has never gone hunting but know how much I love this time of year. However this firearm season will be a little different for me cause she will be hunting for the first time. I can't wait. Having the love of the ourdoors and her with me will be enough to satisfy me even if we don't see anything. Even though it took me 10 years of marriage to finally get her to agree to hunt with me. LOL. I never pushed her to get into it just kept asking a couple times during the season if she wanted to go and sit with me and she would say no. Then this year I asked again during the summer and she said she wasn't gonna go and just sit and watch, she was gonna hunt with me. So I got her into shooting, her hunter safety and had her put in for her doe permit for public land where we live and were both successful. It will be alot of fun. I hope!!!!

I told my wife before we got married that I was hers until Oct. Then I was hers again Jan. 1st. The first couple years she tried doing the wife," where you been thing?" When I had enough of it, we had a little husban and wife disscussion ! Actually it was a husban talking and wife listening discussion. It ended with ?
I told you before we were married and it isnt going to change, so make up your mind. Get over it and live with it. Well ? That was 24yrs ago. LOL Now! She wants to know all of the details of the hunt etc. And I do tell her now where I'm ging and approx what time I MIGHT be home..............LOL

I prepare my HUSBAND by getting out all my gear so he can help me go over it and make any suggestions for anything else his little wifey might need to be safe in the woods. Then, he buys it for me. So far, these items include a new cell phone, GPS, telemetry (for my bird), a Filson coat (for protection from briars)and a .38 (for two-legged predators). I could buy these things myself but it makes him feel good to contribute to my hunting success, comfort and safety.
No, he doesn't hunt. I started doing this on my own two years ago.
