A few years ago, I heard that there was some exotic game ranch up in the UP that had Russian boar. Well, i guess the ranch got shutdown for some reason and the boar escaped. I've heard that the boar population has been in the rise and that locals are complaining to the DNR to do something.
Has anyone heard of this???? If so and if its true, think the DNR will start a boar season????

i haven't heard anything about it, but i sure think that it would be fun to go hunt a wild boar here in michigan.

Quite a few years back in the Gratiot state game area,we ran into a pretty big "herd" of wild boar. They were destroying our bait piles and uprooting all of the trees around the area. We asked the local game warden what we should do and he said shoot 'em.

I ended up shooting a nice boar, probably 250lbs, with 3 inch tusks.I was to young at the time to think about it but I should have gotton it mounted.

My Dad took pictures of a Russian Boar sow (if that makes sense???) north and east of Midland last week when it croseed a county road. There were also little ones with her. There are a couple of wild pig farms in the area and they must have gotten out. Are these legal to shoot if they happen to come by during bow or gun season?

Murph~ The way I understand, it is not legal to shoot an escaped exotic, no more that it would be if a farmers cow escaped. If you shot one of these animals the owner could sue for civil damages.

But.....realistically these boar will not have the previous owner following up for damages........I would imagine that most of these animals, that have become wild, have no ear tags or means to identify the owner.
