Ok, I did it and lived to tell about it. So I must have done something right!
I went down to the range today with my very first batch of reloads. I had some 158 gr 357 TMJ and some 240 gr 44 mag. I pulled the trigger, bang, stop, look,.....hey I still have my life in one piece! Yeah Baby!
The 357 were made up of Speer 158 gr. TMJ over 15, 16, & 17 grains of IMR 4227. I was at the outdoor range so the closest I could get to the target was 25 yards. So as you might expect, the groups were real bad out of a 2 1/2 barrel. Another thing I wasn't happy with was all of the unburned powder left over after each shot. So I have to look into a possible solution to that problem. I have read of others having the same problems with the IMR4227.
The 44 mag were made up of Nosler 240 gr HP over 14 grains of Blue Dot. These were run through my 1976 Ruger 44 Mag Carbine. Talk about sweet! Nice recoil, clean, great groupings, and right in the 10 ring. I have yet to try them at 50 yards, but today was just to make sure I am doing things right, and not blowing things up that I shouldn't be :)
So I am just a tad excited. This has been a long time coming and I am now in full swing. I hope to load some 30.06 sometime next week if I can find the time.
Now if I could just find time to shoot enough to justify a progresive :) Oh well, one thing at time!
