What's your favorite? Hunting, fishing, photography, a combo, etc?

How did you get involved? Was it your Dad, Mom, friend, etc. or something you just felt drawn to? :D

I may be a little old to respond to this but i have been asked this question many times. I actually got myself interested, my dad occasionly fished when he was younger, my great grandpa fished sometimes.... but i grew up near a few lakes and enjoyed getting out of my house and going down there. Sometimes it was to fish, other times to swim and other times catch crawfish. I just learned to love the outdoors.

My roomate got me hunting, and my sisters boyfriend got me into salmon fishing. And members from this site got me into trout fishing.

Now i live on a lake and my dad is bugging me to take him fishing..... and my little brother is getting his hunter's safety this month so i can take him out this fall. And my mom wants nothing more than for me to take her down the river.... not really for fishing but because she loves wildlife and the scenery that rivers give you..

My passion for the outdoors has got my entire family interested. Hopefully my little bro enjoys hunting, i know he has fun fishing as i took him out this year and we killed the bluegill.

oh yeah, here is a link to some pics of my little brother and bluegill.

My Dad taught me how to fish, and the Boy Scouts taught me a lot as well.

I would have become another TV/nintendo addict if it wasn't for the Boy Scouts and family members who got me interested in fishing.

My dad would take me along with him to check his trap lines. Being involved with him doing that exposed me to the outdoors. But he was not a hunter.
My Uncle and Grandfather took the time to take me out hunting. I really owe my Uncle a big thank you as he was the one that got to have me in his blind the first year. He taught me alot (not that day but over the next few years).
I don't remember much about the hunt I mostly remember the hot cocoa and keeping watch as my uncle "rested his eyes". I thought I was a hotshot.
Thank you Uncle Frank

I never really had a huge push by someone to start it was just kinda IN me. My dad got me interested in fishing and my uncles got me to become the good fishermen I am now and my dad always brought me out during firearm season and that got me interested in hunting and other guys I met just showed me different types of hunting so I guess my dad had a big role in getting me addicted to the outdoors and a guy I met last year has been helping me with trapping.

Nope Tangleknot, my little brother is not a member. I don't think he will be either. I have mentioned it to him and he has not shown any interest. Even though if you had told me about online forums when i was 15 i probably would have shown little interest also.

Oh yeah, he is 6'0" and a little over 210 lbs. and only 15. When i was his age i was 5'7" and about 130lbs. He is going to be a big boy. I think a few members even met him, i had him up during the second weekend of the spring outing. He was the one that sat in the room all day playing video games. LOL it was too cold for him.

I didn't have to GET interested. I was raised in the country, and would have lived outdoors permanently if my mom hadn't come looking for me all the time.

Since then I have become civilized, old and lazy, so I spend most of my time thinking about the outdoors and a little of my time out in it.

The person I credit with getting me involved in the outdoors would have to be my dad. He was willing to give up many hours of precious hunting time to allow me to go sit between his legs while bowhunting. Although i may have only been 4, and maybe i made a little more noise than what a true hunter would make, my dad was still willing to take me hunting. That's what i mean when i say giving up precious hunting time. I can't thank him enough for all the things he has done for me. Getting me involved in the outdoors is just one of the many things that I really thank him for.

Ray sounds like some of the stories my Grandfather would tell about jumping on trains in Alpena to head south, and then back north again to Traverse City to pick cherries in the summer. My maternal grandfather was a lumberjack of sorts in Wisconsin for a period of time.

My father is a HUGE outdoorsman, so I just followed in his footsteps. I have shot MUCH bigger deer than him, and he is loving every minute of it. He takes all the glory, cause he taught me well he says. LOL

My dad says the same thing.

I've been out shooting him since I was young and he gets a real kick out of it:D

A few years back I had to track down a nice buck he hit but didn't put a good shot on it.

When I jumped the buck up I shot it five times in the chest before it dropped.
That buck was tuff. My dad was right behind me.

After it was done he turned to my buddy and said ( you know I tought him how to shoot like that):D My buddy said then why are we tracking that Deer:eek:

That is probably one of the best memories we will ever share.

My Dad only took me fishing a couple of times, but friends and I used to ride our bikes to Hines Park and catch Bluegill, Bass and Bullheads. I have since taken the madness to higher levels on my own! :p

Our daughter Sara (who's siting on my lap as I type) has been camping from the age of 5 months. She is also my Lake Erie Walleye buddy, we have made many trips together and with friends. We also fish for Bluegills.
