Hit both lakes in the subject line with a boat my buddy just picked up. We weren't fishing hard, more just getting aquainted with our equipment but we got the skunk for about 3-4 hours on Stoney Creek jigging, popping, jigging w/ twisters, jigging w/ crawlers and tossing out various crankbaits. There are too many weeds in that lake!
Maceday wasn't much better, the swimming was the highlight of the day... going overboard in the middle of the lake. Anyhow, there were lots of pleasure boaters and jet skiers that probably scared off any fish. We don't have a depth finder yet so we couldn't find the deepest spots. That lake supposedly gets 117 feet deep. Hard to believe because it's so small... Anyhow, we caught one largemouth, one smallmouth, one perch and a few rock bass and assorted panfish in the shallower areas and nothing in the deep area.

Funny to hear that, I have always caught some fish at stoney this year. was out there 3 weeks ago, pulled out a real nice 2lb wally! Used a crawler harness with split shot 2-3 feet up from where i tie it on.
I also use the triple ripple grubs and hit the shore lines all the way around and always pull some type of fish out, rock bass, largemouth, catfish, even a small wally fish.
Good luck next time!

Better Luck next time.

Stoney has been slow for me the last couple of years(walleye) but should be ok when the stockings mature. I have caught a few 8-9" walleye this year. I don't think they are reproducing in there but they get weeded out quick once they are mature. The weeds are definatley a problem again even though they treated them once this year I think. Slow trolling w/ harnesses or hot-n-tots seems to produce best for me.

KB,
There will be a next time for sure. That is a nice lake... well, actually, it's two lakes! I just have to make sure to go out in the evening/night time to avoid the pleasure boaters with their tubes and jetski's.

I used to fish out there more a few years back. I did catch a small rainbow off shore. At the time I couldnt believe it...
There are two smaller bays to the right when you're leaving the boat access. There used to be some bass hanging around there.

KB - That's about where we popped em out too. We got the perch in the channel between the two lakes. I saw some people out with bigger boats centering over the deeper part of the lake. It would be hard to troll there though because it isn't that big of a lake. They were stationary and must of been putting down crawlers or something.
Shane - We had three people in a 14 footer... yep, it was crowded. No tangles though.

I think some people use cow bells though that deep part for trout.
