When are you going? Was just up that way this past weekend. We're heading back up the first weekend in September for the "Posen Potato Festival". We're across from Grand Lake, just above Long Lake. Stopped by Buck's on Saturday, lots of guys in there have been going out of Rockport for Salmon, Trout, Steel. Was told by one guy (local) that was there the walleye have been spotty, Bud said there are some reports of some coming in, but the smallies have been hot though! It's been cooler up there lately and that may help the walleyes. Stop in and get the "update" when your there, like the weather it changes daily. Walleye tip for that area: Lake Esau.

True the walleyes seem to be sparse this year. I've only fished Long and Grand twice this year with the last time being 3 weeks ago. I managed a couple each time but that is poor compared to other years. 1fife is right on with the Parker House spot along with the points in s/e end. I've heard alot about Lake Esau but have never been on it but I'd try it if I was to go again. If you have a decent size boat try out of Rockport by Middle Island toward launch for walleyes. I was fishing Salmon there last week and heard the chatter on the radio about big walleye not being uncommon. The harbor is a little tricky getting out of however. You might want to stop by Hubbard Lake on your way up as the walleye are starting to hit alittle better recently.

Bud and Lorie @Bucks are usually pretty accurate on there reports. I've read several times when they've advised the bites not on and if your coming to bring your own luck. I know they both fish Long Lake quite a bit but also know that most of what they report comes from the people who stop by the shop and advise them on how they did, especially the guys coming out of Rockport. Many times I've fished up there (Long & Grand Lakes) when one day you cant keep them off your line and the next you couldnt buy a fish. Its kinda like the weather, unpredictalbe at best! If your fishing Long Lake and know where the "Parker House" is you might want to stop by for a bite, they have some great breakfasts on their menu. If your considering Hubbard Lake I'd suggest e-mailing or calling East Bay Ed, he's a member on this site and has webpage as well, look him up in the members profile. Hope you have good luck when you go, I enjoy the time (when thats possible) away and if I catch fish its considered a bonus to an already great time! :)

if your crawlers and minnows fail you.try alittle long line night trolling. We have had luck with little rippers in any glitter finish 75 to 100 ft. back thru the night when others baits left us wanting for size and numbers! Good luck! you'll love the lake! Careful around the boulder fields, enjoy!
