Hello again boehr, What does the dnr do when someone lets a shanty out to sink? This happend last year near where i fish and it looks like it's going to happen again this year. There is a shanty with no names and the door is out. there has been no body around it for at least 3 weeks. If i have to i will pull the darn thing of my self but what the heck would i do with it when i got it to shore. thanks chad 1

Unfortunately, this situation is not unique to any particular lake. If an officer can get to it, providing the ice is still safe and an officer can get it to an access site, they would pull it to the access site and attempt to locate an owner. If this is a lake without an access site somebody must know who's shanty it is. If the owner can be located then the owner would be ticketed and ordered to remove the shanty, from the ice or access site. If, after a period of time no owner could be located the shanty would be destroyed and disposed of. It would be by recommendation to call the local DNR Office and report it. You may offer to get it off the ice so it doesn't go through but that's you choice. Once a shanty goes through officers don't have equipment to get a shanty out of the water and although they would try, chances are they would probably fail to get the shanty out of the water.
