west side steelies

I heading to the west side of the state this weekend to try for some steelies, we're gonna have a boat, I'm thinkin st.joe, muskegan or kalamazoo, or if theres any open water around any of the piers there could try for some browns. whats the conditions over there and where do you guys suggest I start at. will be in rockford ,so either direction ,north or south will work. thanks , kevin

There are some browns being caught off the pier at the St. Joe. The lake is open with only a little ice on the shoreline. The ramp at Tackle Haven is wide open with no ice present. Last Wednesday there were 2 boats fishing the shoreline out along the lake. Last Friday at lunch I watched 2 browns get landed.
