Howdy Boehr – I’m sure that you’ve answered this before and I apologize if this is a repeat question. I would like to know where I could throw my own clay pigeons (trap/skeet) for recreational shooting. If I remember correctly lands designated “SGA” are open to target practice while lands designated “recreation area” are not. Am I close? Also, are there seasonal restrictions? Thanks in advance.

BowDad...for the most part you are correct. State Game Areas are open to target practice but not all state games areas. Because I don't know which specific SGA you are talking about I would call the local DNR Office, for you that would be in Livonia at 734-953-0241.

For example, here in Kalamazoo County, Gourdneck SGA is closed to all target practice at all times of the year.

There may also be certain weapon restrictions that you may inquire about.

You may also check this site out about designated state ranges.

Hey bowdad, I know its a long way, and we couldn't do it much, but I'd like to get together at Durand's club and blast a few sometime. I have no idea when they start up trap and skeet again but I bet its pretty early in the spring.

I could use some instruction you know.

Thanks Boehr!

Love to Sarge! (and anybody else that's interested). But don't bet against Sarge, I think he's the original ringer. :D
If we can put it together it's sure to be a blast. :) :)

Probably not a ringer, but I do have a unique ability to observe whats needed and then apply. Unfortunately, that is only where shooting is concerned. Also I am not nearly as good as I tell everyone, but lets just keep that a secret.

I'll be watching and wondering, and let you know when they open up for trap again, see ya.
