Looking to head to Sanford Lake Saturday to fish for some panfish. Having never fished there, where would be a good area to try?

Thanks in advance.

If you put in on the south end of the lake by the Sanford dam, try the area on the southwest side of the US-10 Bridge. Wax worms or crawlers work well. You can also go to the other side of the bridge and fish a couple cuts that they call the first and second fills. They are on your left/west side roughly a mile and 3 miles down. Good luck!

Ed like jumpshot said the US10 bridge area is a good area. I was up there fishing bass, pike, walleye, and muskie two weeekends ago. Ther was two dads with about five kids having a blast catching panfish under neath the bridge. The graph went almost black underneath the bridge. Good luck Baydog;)

I used to fish sanford when I was at CMU and during this time of year we consentrated on the river channel. Lots of Cats and bullhead if you are into the night fishing thing....

Everyone must have seen your post, my friend and I went to Sanford Lake about 9am this morning and went to the US10 bridge, there were about 4 or 5 other boats around that area fishing. We put in right under the bridge and the fish finder was going crazy! We caught small blue gills hand over fist. I've never seen them bite like that before, comeing right up to the surface, just dozens of fish. We also landed a couple small mouth bass (9"-10") range and also some nice perch, however the perch were not caught under the bridge. There was a guy in a boat muskie fishing and we saw another guy in a bass boat with alot of fish. Anyway, if you want to have a blast just catching fish, left and right. Thats the place. Use light line and ultra-light tackle and it'll be like reeling in a hog. Tight lines.

Everybody was under the bridge again today, but it was only because the heavy rain kept every one there. Lots of small bluegills and a few bass. One guy I know thought he could fool with mother nature and run to the north end of the lake. Raining on that end of the lake I guess too, because he came back soaked.:p Guess I'll wait till fall and hit the big guys the muskies. Baydog
