Good luck Mike. I would recommend taking some kind of bug spray etc to try and get rid of the little b-stards. I am thinking about mounting a tiki torch on the bow of my boat or getting one of those insect foggers. I wonder if SANG would get upset if they saw a mushroom cloud hanging over my boat. Give us your report when you get in tomorrow.

I have to agree the gnats were horrible yesterday, clouds of the b####ds! Hey, but the fishing was good off #29. Pink and white crawler harness with bottom bouncer at 1.2 mph seemed to work well.

What a great day on the pond, fishing a sml. work tournament. We started out in the pea soup using the GPS at a SLOW speed around 630AM The little bugs were hideous. We had the front windows open for better view and the damp fog made every bug stick to your face/hair/clothing.
I bumped Walleye Mike on chl.68 as we exited our marina. He was already at his fishing spot. This is a man who knows his GPS. Mike also saved us lots of time and gass.-- thanx for the reply Mike.
Anyhow, I only had my hand held gps With only old waypoints stored in it, so we set out to find the grs.point trench to get close to where I wanted to fish (Canadian side of the ditch by Peach island). We fished for 45 min. with lots of weeds and one 17 inch eye and made the scary decision to cross the ditch W/out getting hit by a freighter. After we crossed we set a the compas towards the Canadian shore. another hr. and only one other sml. eye. About this time the fog started to burn off and I found the spot where we were planning in the first place. We trolled 3 ways, with everything from harnesses to raps to spoons to flatfish. All worked and in 3 hrs we landed more than our three man limit all small eaters. We did stop 3 fish shy of our limit waiting for the big eye that would win the tournament.
Time was running short and the and we had to make the move. we had 3 spots to pick from. Center of the lake in Canada- The weeds in the dumping grounds- or Amer. water by the lighthouse? I bumped Walleye Mike who was having a slow day, one spot eliminated. I then tried to bump an old friend on Chl. 9 and got no reply. While sitting there pondering where to fish My cell phone rings. Its a fishing friend that I haven't spoke with all year. Like a God send his conversation started out " I'v got a Hot tip for ya" "and ended I cant get a fish under 18" to keep" (in the Canadian waters). He evin gave me GPS #'s
Off we go --- I can't give the exact spot, but we were in Canidan waters around 3 Miles behind the lighthouse. With only one hr. to fish. The hot harness was bumblebee or blk with yellow dots. the first 3 fish were just over 20 inches all landed with in 20 min's of fishing. We kept 2 and waited for the big one. We went over the spot again and all 3 rods hit but nothing over 20 inch. I then pulled up my harness to check it for weeds and out of the deep blue a HUGE musky hit my harness about 5 foot behind the boat and 2 foot under the water. I was so shocked I forgot to set the hook and he was gone. On the next pass over the spot my buddys pole started stripping drag. well the goof picks up the rod and sets the hook 3 times like he was like he was trying to hook a Marlin. Snap. With only time for one more pass my rod bends, I pick it up and feel that heavy thump thump of a big eye. Yahoo got the net and put a respectable 24 inch eye in the cooler.
The weigh- in was on a small island by Strawberry island. We ended up taking the Walleye category and the biggest fish category with the same Walleye and missed the big perch by 1/4 inch. All in All Great day and enough prize $ to fill the boat and return entry fee to all on the boat.
Tj I would have loved to take the Tiara. but it drafts 3 and 1/2 foot of water and there are spots by the island that are only 2 foot. It's too bad the radar would have been nice to have that morning.

Ed, without the GPS, I never would have ventured far. Never did go faster than 20MPH tho. Saw 2 boats out there all morning. Couldn't see more than 100 yards in most places. Went from Crocker launch out to near bouy 25 with no problem.
GPS is the only way to go. Won't leave home without them.
I too only have a handheld, but with enough waypoints to direct you, you can get there blind.
I got off work a little early yesterday and hit the shore for a bit of casting before the storms rolled in. Bass were fighting over my lures. I had two run into each other trying to attack a Weed Demon as soon as it touched down. I had a Muskie in the low 40" range follow me in three times, but I couldn't get it to commit. The walk back to the truck was miserable, the wind was so fierce my face was getting sanblasted as I walked into it. Some of that stuff hitting me was pretty big, and hurt.

I was on the island when the storm hit. I'm sure a few boats were caught in the storm.
