My buddy and I will most likely be heading to either LSC or Erie for the Labor Day weekend and are looking for some advice/tips.
We will be in a 17' open bow boat with a 120 hp I/O. The primary targets would be walleye and smallies with some perch and musky thrown in.
My questions are:
1. Do you think the boat traffic will stir up the lake too much for the boat we will be in?
2. Where should we launch for easy access to good fishing areas and the least amount of traffic?
3. Will the fishing be as good as it appears to be now at that time of year?
4. Anything else you folks can think of for a few out of towners.
Thanks!

LSC
1. Depends on the weather. The nicer the weather the more non-fishing boats that there will be out. We usually fish early on the water early off the water.
2. Spillway Launch between Crocker and Shook on Jefferson or South River Road Launch. Both are centrally located.
3. Perch should be starting to pick up a little bit by then. The walleye will be around, it might take a little time to find them. Bass always seem to be plentiful .
4. Get a good chart of the lake, there are some danger zones (low water) out there. Consider buying a canadian liscense also some of the best fishing on the lake is in canadian waters.

Fish early and late to avoid the worst of the boat traffic. Even on a dead calm day, you can get pounded by the wakes from all the boats. Fish from day break to 11am, then 5pm till dark. Walleyes may be there, smallies will be for sure! Have fun, look out for sand bars out there even in the middle of the lake!

Unless fishing in Canada, I usually end before lunch to avoid the crowds as pikelsime says. I do not think you will find the same issue on Lake Erie as LSC regarding pleasure boating.
Both LSC and Erie will offer good fishing during your target time frame, I would suggest watch the boards and check some of the tackle shops closer to your trip. IMO @ that time, Erie will be better for walleye, LSC for smallies, but both are great fisheries.
Your boat will fine on either, double check your equipment as you can end up along way from assistance, especially on Erie. The weather will also dictate alot, last weekend had a small craft advisory. Get a chart, it will show the low spots for LSC, they are generally in Anchor bay and off the channel mouths.
For launches (DNR) try Harley Ensen for LSC (end of S. River Road)
Bolls Harbor for Erie (off I-75, La Plaisance exit).

if you do decide to fish erie, the most important thing to watch out for is the winds......SOUTH, SOUTHEAST are usually the worst.......NORTHWEST is the best you can hope for with straight WEST being a close second.
i am on erie very often, with daily updates on the lake from friends........get in touch with me closer to your trip here, and i will give you a report for the species you plan to target. FOR THE BIGGER SMALLIES, A CANADIAN LICENSE IS RECOMMENDED.
the easiest launch to use for lake erie, for those species, IMO will be sterling state park in monroe, mi. it is easy to find.....EXIT 15 off of I-75.
perch should be picking up in about a week or so, and the walleye have been fabulous this year.
the smallies will be planning their annual trek back to shallower water (9 to 14), and begin their assault on the shad that are un-lucky enough to venture too close to MR. BRONZEBACK.
