Started on a selfbow today and I am enjoying the the idea that this is and will be all mine. I designed it, I picked out the wood, I made it. Are there any outright do's and don'ts that I should be watching for. This first project is an ash bow that will be 60" tip to tip and going for (I hope) 45-50 pounds at 28" draw.

Hi Gary,

Fisrt of all, I must say that this is not an attempt to get you away from this forum. I also frequent a site call the Stickbow. Their Leatherwall forum is frequented by many self-bowyers of varrying degrees of experience. I'm sure if you posted your questions there that you would get a great deal of advise.

Good Luck. I admire your motivation. I'm just tackling wood arrows and think it will be some time before I try my first self bow. Have fun.

Thanks for the info gundog I will be sure to check out the Stickbow site, I have this urge to drowned myself in Traditional Archery and I have no idea why. This started about a year ago and it is still playing hard on me.

Hi Kyte, Hope your bow is coming along as planned. MC was my biggest problem with my first ash bow.
Good luck!

It is addicting, and I think that there's something inside that draws some of us back to the ways of old.

I once handled one of my dogs for a bunch of guys that were pheasant hunting with longbows and recurves. That was when I was still a wheel shooter. Within a year I had my first longbow and I haven't looked back since.

Just wish I had more time to spend. If I just didn't have to work I'd be happy.
