Garmin eTrex GPS

Hey guys I just bought a Garmin eTrex GPS and was wondering if anyone owned one. I really like it so far and was wondering if anyone could give me some tips and tricks on working this thing! Hey the coords for your favorite fishing spot would be great too. LOL :D

I got mine right after they came out, so i've had it for a couple of seasons...It's a great little unit...What do you want to know???

Hey,
I have had one for about 2 years. I really like it also. It doesn't have a lot of the bells and whistles as a lot of them, but it does function well for me. I mainly use it to get in and out from tree stands in the dark, and also marking fishing holes(especially in the winter) Don't really have any tips to offer other than always bring an extra set of batteries.

The one tip I do have...If you use it at night and turn the backlight to stay on all the time...Don't forget to shut that off next time you use it in the daytime...You won't be able to see the backlight, and it really runs your batteries out...

Your kidding me right? On the package for my eTrex it clearly stated the following:

I didn't write the laws but I will be forced to turn you in if you don't give up the info!

Another battery tip, buy rechargeables! I have the ETrex Venture, it likes to eat batteries.
I bought a battery charger and 4 batteries for $25 at Target. I keep a pair in the charger and a pair in GPS. I just switch them out when I am ready to use it. Has worked great for me. ;)

Also if you want a car / boat power cable check out GPS Geek (http://www.stores.ebay.com/gpsgeek/plistings/list/all/dept2/index.html?col=2&dir=-1) through ebay. I bought a data / power combo cable and it was $17 delivered! They want $25 each at Gander and Bass Pro for the power cable.

You can also set the unit to be in a battery saving mode, but I always carry a spare set of batteries.

I have the Venture too. My first and only GPS. As I learn to use it I like it more each time. It does eat batteries and i think I will try the rechargables. Thanks.

I enjoy my Garmin Legend. We recently took a driving vacation and we used it to find out were we were on the map.

Here is a spot for you. I was on the water but did not get to fish. Enter the numbers in Teraserver.com to get an areial picture.

North 43 degrees, 5 minutes, 6 seconds

You can't go wrong with Garmin. Depending on your use. I would say spend the few extra bucks and get GPS MAP and not just a Plotter>

My wife got me the garm GPS V early in the spring from a silent auction at school. It's my first GPS. Love it so far. Plots street addresses for you and gives messages/directions to your destination.

Got the blue chart marine for it. Pretty cool. Keeps me off the sandbars at night.

Will try to get one of the garmin marine gps with big screen in a year or 2 just for the boat so i can read where i am going much better.

just bought a set of energizer e2 batteries for my garmin vista got about 16 hours so far and 3/4 bar left highly recommended

Is the Magellan® SporTrak™ GPS the best GPS unit for under $150? I don't need all the bells and whistles. Just to be able to travel thru the dense UP wilderness and not get lost. Typical big woods hunter type usage. Also, to mark fishing spots in summer and while ice fishing. Easy to use unit is a plus!

With my etrex all I do is ( using the Quick Start Guide) photo-copy #'s 7,8. Laminate them + carry them with you on your outings. After 7-2 turn off unit. When ready to return 2 your starting point, turn on unit + go to #8. Go thru the steps, the compass arrow will take you back 2 your starting point, within 2-5 feet. I use my etrex a lot while hunting + my batteries have lasted over a year now. I also use it while shed hunting. This is worthwhile checking out.

I have a Etrex Vista, The most accurate that it has read is 19 feet. Is there a way to change the settings to improve it?
