Boehr, When "running" my GSP out of season (when it's allowed), what are the requirements if I'm carring a "Gun" (ie., Glock 22 in an exposed Tactical Holster, .357 lever action,...) for protection of myself and dog from WILD CARNIVORS or Mi Militia? This would be on public lands in and around Roscommon Co.

Don't worry about the Militia those are the guys that will save you.
Check out the Mi. dnr site for info on when you can run/train your dog afield.

As trout said there is a section on dog training on the DNR web site.
As far as carrying a firearm while training you dog during the period when dog training is legal it's fine as long as you have a small game license (a little different during the period Nov 10 - Nov 30). Under current law, as long as the handgun is exposed (without a CCW) that is fine. Certain critters have no closed season like red squirrels, skunks, opposums etc. I doubt think you going to have much of a problem with militia on public land.

Thanks Guys. ...The comment about the Militia was intended as Humor. I've only run into them once. Pat hunting on a Sunday. I keep an old pick up at the lake to use Hunting. Drove out before daylight, parked by sunup and forgot to turn off the headlights(no headlight on warning buzzer). When my brother and I returned to the truck, the battery was dead. We were 5 miles from the pavement down a one track. Started walking out and along comes a truck carrying two "skin heads" in camo. They had jumper cables and got us up and running. When the driver flipped the bench seat back to get the cables, he had to lift out the two M16's that covered them. I don't think they were bird hunting! Saved us from along walk home. I just assumed they were Militia. I know what the definition of "assumed" is.
Another day in the woods to fondly remember!!
