Fished Wednesday afternoon on Lake Erie near Detroit River Light. Action hot for walleyes. Kept all 13" to 16" eyes, while releasing several eyes over 16", got an easy limit in under 4 hours, and secured our weekly walleye dinner. Largest walleye went 23". Also some smally action.
All of a sudden, a monsterous hit and 30 yards of line peeled off my drag. Then, my bro and dad thought a snag, I knew it was a MONSTER fish. Thinking the fish might be a giant sheepshead(i mean, a 15-20 pounder) or a 7 or 8lb. smally- It fought harder than any other fish. I starting gaining line slowly, as it furiously shook it's head, and took many short runs. All of a sudden 30 yards from the boat, it took a spectacular 6 foot leap clear of the water!!!!!!!!!!Me and my bro(Can't Touch This) were stunned, as, we know smallies aren't silver, and, sheepshead can't jump that high!!! But, my dad, from prior experience, knew instanty it was a STEELIE!!! It was my first Lake Erie STEELHEAD!!!!!!!!
After a couple more drag taking runs, we netted the silver bullet. About as chrome as can be!!!!
