If one was hunting and shot a deer, and it went through that deer into the other behind it killing both. What is one to do? Say he had valid doe permit for one deer. Is that person to contact the DNR? And what are the chances they would even believe it. It's not likely to happen to very many people but it could happen. Just wondering. Thanks.

If the person had legal tags for both deer then the correct thing to do would be to tag the deer and take them. If the person only had one tag for the first deer, that person should call the local DNR Office and tell them. Obviously, tag your legal deer prior to the officer coming out. It's likely the officer will take the second deer you don't have a tag for, give it to a needy family, and thank you for being an honest hunter. There would be no reason for the officer that comes out not to believe you. The officer wouldn't believe you if you don't call and get caught. It has happened before and will happen again, even though it is not very common.

I believe I had a similar experience with the multiple deer single shotgun slug. Luckily Song_Dog had enough tags for all deer in question.

I don't think that a responsible hunter should even take a shot where there is the possibility of hitting anything except what one is aiming at. If there is a deer standing behind the one you want, I think you have to let it pass. Maybe you don't get your buck. It's hunting, not killing.

Thanks boehr. I'm sure it wont ever happen to me...But if it did i will know what to do. Thanks again.

Mike I am a responsible hunter. When your focusing on the shot hard to know if another deer would move right beside it. Yes if you knew the possibilty was there don't take it. And no hunting is not about killing at all!
