The wife just gave the word that this summers vacation is in Traverse City. We're renting a cottage on Silver lake which is just south of Silver Lake. Anyone familar with fishing Silver Lake? Any other small lakes in the area?
I have a 14' boat with a small outboard.
Thanks for any advice.

I lived there on silver lake for about 3 months while going to college up there. We use to catch a lot of walleye trolling. we used a three way swivel with a sinker and about a 4ft leader with floating rapala. all in all it was a good fishing lake. But its been 21 years since I was there so its hard to remember much about the lake itself.

is in town now...Traverse City is this ever growing megalopolis. I've never fished it, it's pretty small, but I would think you could get decent panfish and yes, maybe some walleye, out of it, but I never hear anything about it anymore...Long Lake is right down the road, much larger lake, and probably better fishing, lots of walleye, not much size to them, tho.

Thanks! I'll give the walleye a try and let you know how we do. Going the end of July.
I spend my time on Long Lake, so I do not know aything about Silver Lake other than what it looks like when I drive by. But, if you can trailer your boat, it is about 10-15 minutes to the launch on Long Lake. Green Lake and Duck Lake are close by, which hold trout. Let us know how you do.
