Had a pleasant fishing trip early this week. Went up to Hale area on Sunday. Fished big water in morning then headed to the Southbranch to see about hitting any late hexes...saw a few hex but never really got into them. Took my bud Bill to a couple new spots for him, watched him catch a very nice 19 inch rainbow on a size 10 roberts yellow drake.
One night on South branch we had a sulfer hatch..not heavy and blew my socks off. Sulfers (yep there were) rose sporatcially for about 30 minutes. Caught one nice 15 inch brown, switched over to hex spinner and caught another similar fish and all of this was going on about 10:30 pm.

Before that we were catching small brookies swinnging elk hair caddis.

Tuesday morning we fished the lake attached to the house, A huge deer hair popper and we caught a few 3 to 5 lb largemouths. Those things really hit hard and aggressive. Quite a weekend, brown trout, rainbown, brookies, largemouth bass, crappie (Bill hooked a few of them) and rock bass. And...we missed the terrible 4th traffic.

Sounds pleasant indeed!

We'll be in the Hale area for the weekend for an annual canoe trip and water wars.

I hope to get out for few hours on a local stream. Any hints on easy access for a short trip?

I tend to fish the upper areas more often but check your maps and look for the 4001 bridge..and just above it a camping spot called the Gabions. We parked at the Gabions, walked up stream for about 20 minutes and had some nice fishing. The water is swift, wide wide river (one heck of a view). If you do not mind driving some more head upstream to the Mio Boat launch area and there are trails below the damn there to fish. This area gets fished pretty heavy but there are still plenty of nice fish to be caught. Have a great time on the river...This area has many lakes if you are looking for bluegills/bass I would check with some of the local shops and see who has public access.

Thanks for the reply!

I think I'm gonna fish a familiar stretch of another river there. It has been a good Spring stretch, time to give it a look in mid-summer.

Thanks again.
