Has anyone ever fished this lake or stayed at the resort. Located north of Newberry. Supposed to have decent walleye fishing. Any and all input appreciated. Thanks!
I have fished it on several occasions. I have a cabin about 4 miles from there. I haven't had much luck in that lake. I have heard that leeches were the ticket.
If your going all the way up there try little lake harbor, mister twisters with a white tail work best. The water is about 15' deep all the way up to shore. Go close the shore on the east side of the harbor, there are several submerged logs, a few hangups but great fishing on the right day.
Culhane lake also has walleye in it. In the early morning and toward evening try east end in about 8-10 FOW, a large weedbed provides cover for baitfish. The eyes enter to feed. Crawlers have worked well for me there.
All in all most places up there are hit and miss. (more miss than hit) Little lake usually is good for a northern or two at least.

There is a State Forest campground on Culhane lake. I've camped there a couple of times. Very quiet and secluded campsites under big pines, nice place to camp. I'ts been quite some time since I was last there. I might have to take the canoe up there for a long camping weekend and try for some of those walleye. :)

We will be camping at Muskallonge the week of 20 July. Would like to try Little Harbor and Culhane but was wondering if there were some kind of launching ramp on either of the lakes. I have a 16' flat bottom that launches pretty easy. Also, are there any other lakes in the Newberry area that might be worth trying for eyes? Appreciate any info. Will post a report when we get back.

Both lakes, Culhane and Little lake, have launches, Culhane does not have a dock but a good cement launch, Little lake has a good cement launch and a nice dock. Try launching into the Taquamenan River (sp?) near newberry or out at the mouth, I haven't done it but my cousin lives up there and says they have had great success dropping jigs into down trees. there is an Island somewhere down the river that is supposed to be the hotspot.
Muskallonge has produced well for us. Northerns mainly, on very small black and silver rapalas. I believe they are number 3's, about 1.5 inches in length.
Hope this helps,

The area you guys are talking about I love. I have always had luck on Culhane, which does have a ramp. Never fished pike. Every time I have been there the locals always tell me the fish have not been biting. North of Culhane is Bodi. Both Bodi and Culhane are planted with Walleye.
Ski, go to the DNR web site and look at their planting list. I believe there is a lake, Bass Lake, a little south of the area that is supposed to have Walleyes. It has a ramp. Also, down the road from Muskellunge is area called Pretty Lake. They started planting Walleye there about 4 years ago. Two years ago I caught a ton there, but no keepers. They should be there now. Can always grab a Splake and some perch there also. Only problem is that there are no motors allowed on the lake. Deeper in the area, you would have to portage, is Beaver House Lake. I have pulled Walleyes out of there, but a lot of work to get to.
That’s what I am familiar with. Good Luck to all. I plan on being at Culhane the first week of August. Culhane ranks as my second favorite place to go. Pretty Lake is first. Not so much because of the great fishing, but for the seclusion. Not a lot of people up there, and the ones that are there, are as nice as can be.

If you get sick of chasing walleye. The two-hearted is only about 3 miles from Pike Lake.

Thanks, guys.... I think I'll have to take another week off so I can hit all the lakes that you have mentioned. So many lakes..... so little time. We have been going to Muskallonge for several years now and every year I promise myself to try some other lakes and the Two Hearted. Never seem to find the time once we're there. Appreciate all the info...... Great fishing to all of you......
We have a cabin just west of Culhane lake on the little two hearted. I've been hunting and fishing the area for about 30 years now. Menominee bite great in superior when the run is on (spring and fall) steelies in big two hearted, perch, pike, and walleye in several lakes up there. The taquamenon has some large northerns, walleye and musky! But after mentioning all of this I have to admit there are better places to fish, but I'm hard pressed to mention a more tranquil location. I have some favorite spots but sorry guys.... you would have to come with me to go to them:cool:
Have fun and enjoy yourself, wish I was going. BigK and I were up there a couple of weeks ago but had to replace the roof on our cabin. Had time to catch 20 or so hammer handles in a small lake that has a million little guys, but unable to venture beyond that. The fall is my favorite time to go up there. Wake up and try to decide what to do... fish for minominees?pike?walleye? hunt grouse?deer? or just have some UPer beverages?
