So there I was...blissfully burbling my buzzbait over the glass-like surface of the Ontario lake when out of the depths...a pike attacks!! I leaned back into the hookset and (dramatic pause) the line separates at the rod tip. A quick look at the tip and I see that the ceramic ring is gone:eek: Well, I'm home now and I'm trying to figure out how to get the tip off of the rod to replace it. I'm hoping that I don't have to cut the rod shorter. Can I use heat to take it off? Somebody help, please. My favorite rod is out of action and I can't sleep at night because of it!!

yeah, try heating it. most rod tips are glued on and they can come off easy when heated. There is the chance yours won't but it couldn't hurt to try. Then, just get a new tip and glue it on.
BTW, what kind of rod was it? ugly stick rod tips seem to lose the "inner" eye on the tip alot, we have replaced just about every rod tip on our ugly sticks due to that inner eye falling out.

warm it using a lighter or better yet an oil lamp. be careful as you don't want to over heat the graphite, do not put it direcltly in the flame. that glue will soften given just a fair amount of heat. then you can remove it. replacing it requires some hot melt glue (specifically made for tip tops and the like), and thats about it, heat the glue, spread on tip of rod, push on tip top, "work" it over the rod to get a good seal, line up with guides, and what not, and wipe off excess.

Thanks fellas--
I'll try the heat on it and see how that goes. The rod is a shimano stimuli. Unfortunately, I can't remember where I bought it. Could've been Cabelas and I could go and just switch it out but, alas, I'm not sure. Again, thanks. I'll be back in the game soon!
