Does anybody use snap swivels on Hot N Tots or other body baits? Why? I first started fishing Erie with a guy that tied direct and that is what I continue to do. Always wondering if there is a better method.

I think that all crankbaits get a little better action with either a swivel or a rapala loop knot. At least that's what most experts will tell you. That's how I always rig now.

I use dual lock snaps, and for only one reason. It's easier to change lures. I don't leave a lure on for very long if it's not producing, keep changing until you find what the fish want, and that's the only reason.

I guess you could say that's lazy,,,,:D but I'm all right with that to.

I use a # 1 coastal lock swivel in front of all crank baits. The reason is that a small fish or even a sheephead tend to roll with the lure and the twisted mono is trashed after this happens. Used to only use sampo swivels but now I have found that the cabela's premium do a good job and are lighter on the wallet. I will still only use sampo brand when fishing for salmon. I caught a sheephead so big tues. that it swallowed the entire hot-n-tot !

I used to always direct tie but now use snap swivels.

As above, with small fish they save a lot of line twists.
Plus they're much more convenient for changing lures.

As far as action, I found little difference in producing more fish with swivels.

I use snaps only without a swivel and never had a line twist problem. Swivels can cut into the action of the lure. Better yet tie them on, but thats pretty time consuming if you change baits often.

I also use the Duo Lock snaps. I believe that with swivels you lose action in your lure.
