I have a Beretta .40 S&W that I would like to carry into the woods with me and would like to know what is legal. I have heard that the max. shot can be no more then 9 (have already fixed that problem) but what about a second mag. with 8 shots? I can drop one mag. and pop the next one in quick.
If I use it on deer (max 20 yards) what would be the best type of ammo?

Thanks in advance and all other possible replies on a handgun in the woods would be great.

You can carry as many magazines as you wish. I assume you are talking about hunting with the pistol and not just carrying it. I also assume you are not taking about bow hunting.

Here is some other info about handguns.

Thanks Boehr
It would be just carried during the firearm deer season, but that brings up another question. Could I carry it afield with a small game permit if not bow hunting?

Sure, you can hunt small game with it if you choose.
