I am planning a trip next wednesday, and I need a good lake to fish. I live in Royal Oak, MI. I dont mind driving around 1 hour (preferrably less). I went last week to stony lake in Oxford, MI. I also went to Metamora last week. I need a good lake I can fish from shore. I did decent at those 2 lakes, but I want to do better. I am interested in big pan fish and bass. Any help you can be of is great. Thanks!

Kensington.......locate baitfish swimming around in the shallows and fish worms around and over the weeds. Try around turtle Island and Flagstaff. There is also a shorefishing area that runs along the old river channel. You may get lucky and get a nice Walleye. Try early in the day and in the evening. I think the park opens at 630am. I caught some nice bluegills and 2-3 pound Largemouth the other day off of Hickory Trail. You will see it on your way to Turtle and Flagstaff. Good Luck. How was the shore fishing at Stony Creek. I want to go there for Catfish.

M-M,
Crooked Lake in Waterloo Recreation Area has a fishing pier. Take I-94 west to the Kalmbach Road exit (past Chelsea). I believe it's exit 156. Turn right off the exit and continue to Cavanaugh Lake Road (turn left there). Turn right on Loveland Road (this is a gravel road). Continue past the stone company to the Crooked Lake access sign and turn right. The pier is off the picnic area. A State Parks vehicle permit is required.
Now that I think about it, you will pass a small park on the south shore of Cavanaugh Lake on your way to Crooked Lake. I'm not sure but there's probably some shore fishing available there too.
I've never fished there but I believe Ford Lake has a shore fishing access as well. Ford Lake is just east of route 23 and just south of I-94 (just south of Willow Run Airport). I believe Kroppe or Ypsifly are the area specialists for Ford Lake info and directions.

Pickeral lake and Hiland lake in the Pinckney recreation area can both be fished from shore, Pickeral has a pier, Hiland is just the shoreline.
Bellville lake has a elevated walkway that you can fish from on hte east end along haggerty road, its called French landing
Island lake Recreation area has the Spring mill pond and a few other ponds that are accessable only by foot, they are full of Bass and panfish, some are wadeable, but be prepared for a hike to get to them, well worth the trip

Island lake rec area is a great place to fish, and it is right across I-96 from kensington metropark which also has a lot of lake access. fish the huron river/kent lake above the dam at island lake rec area. bass and gills off the shore away from the dam, perch and walleyes, right in front of the dam, and below the dam there are a few nice holes that hold smallies. good luck. Spring mill pond may a few trout left in it, but they will be tough with the hot weather. ;)

O yeah, kent lake, off turtle head one time, we caught a whole buncha lil bass, and there are some nice ones swimming in that area. IN fact, one day, we were having a picnic there one time. And we wre walking down, and we seen this HUGE bass in a bucket, the guy said he just caught it from off the shore there, he had a deeper hole off shore, and, man, that thing was over 7 pounds, it was a giant.

I found a spot in Ann Arbor today..........and I am not tellin...LOL I will say it is on the Huron River.LOL Can anyone guess? I have been spending alot of time resaerching the Souteastern Area of michigan looking for good places to fish. I decided that I would spend time watching and talking to the highest member of the foodchain at numerous sites. Well I think I hit paydirt today. Caught several Bass in the 15 inch range today and released them all. I am looking for Master Angler Fish this summer. I was just using crawlers on a float rig and fishing any shade I could find from shore. Funny.........I was actually targeting catfish.
