Heading up to the Onaway / Atlanta area over the 4th and was hoping to find some trout. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You could try the Black, but I wasn't impressed with it last time. I believe Stewart Creek (a trib) offers trout, but I never fished it.

The Ocqueoc is another that's worth a shot as are some of the tribs to the Thunder Bay River.

Not much help, sorry.

pick up bedfords book Michigan trout streams, and a good county map. i have been reading that book non stop for a couple of weeks now, trying to find somewhere to fish while i am up there in 3 weeks. i have family up there to, so when i get a chance to rob them of some knowledge, i might have a better idea. but according to the book i mentioned above, there are a few nice streams up there.

also, check the dnr trout/salmon guide. they list all the streams that are supposed to have trout. though i dont believe they all do, or not enough to make it worth a hardcore day of fishing. i have found some decent water following the guide and a good county map.

good luck and if i run across anything i will let you know in a pm :)

Right around the county boundry about a mile and a half north of the Elbow bar is the Tomahawk Creek Flooding. Nice place for a small boat and/or bank fishing for pan fish and more. There is a state forest campground and launch site.

The Pidgeon is worth a try. If you're in the Atlanta area you're not far from the Thunder Bay river either. There's some other places to try depending on how far you want to drive. Check some State maps. A good reference for that area for trout water is Linseman's and Nevala's book "Michigan Trout streams".
