Hey Guys,

I am heading to Houghton Lake on Friday for the weekend for my Bachelor Party / Fishing Trip. It will mainly be a fishing trip. This is my first time fishing on Houghton and I was wondering if you had any tips for me. I plan on fishing for just about everything. Any information or hot spots would be appreciated.

Thanks a bunch,

Eric

I'm heading up tomorrow, Thursday, and would also like to know where the best place for gills are, I normally launch from the DNR launch where they have the tip up town set at. Probably just head to the middle grounds. There are good "fishing" maps at most bait shops, they show where the weed beds are and what type of fish should be there. Good luck.

Went to Houghton Lake yesterday, got to the lake about 10am, launched from the south east side and fished an area that is sort of a small bay, with lots of shallow areas dotted with deep holes. We caught quite a few blue gills on wax worms and leaf worms, fished with a small jig and also a crappie rig. Also caught crappies when we used flathead minnows. We also caught quite a few small pike. They were caught on the minnows and also on crank baits. We stayed out until about 4pm. We wind was an issue, which is why we opted for the east side of the lake. The weed beds are scattered, you can see them as dark patches in the water. Not a bad day fishing. Good luck.

We fished on Thursday, walleye alley, 13-15 FOW, trolling, put 3 eyes in the box, all about 17" on deep diving rapalas, 2 on firetiger, 1 on vampire. Added about 9 pike to the mix, only one legal though. Didn't fish for gills but seen some at the launch. Guys said they were fishing 6-8 FOW, 3' down using leaf worms. Fishflys are still hatching....should be done soon. Fish on and enjoy the lake!!
