where can you get truely monster night crawlers from? i would even order them through the mail if i could find out where to get some. the ones i get in the bait shops lately barely fit on the 3 hooks of a crawler harness. somebody has to sell big crawlers somewhere. i ordered some last year from a place in california that advertise "monster" crawlers, and when i got them they weren't any bigger than a big leaf worm. any ideas guys? thanks, lets get too doin some fishin..

Try going to a Golf Course. I have picked up some huge crawler's here before. Check out the fair way's, and around the tee off spot's. Watch out for the sprinkler's though :D One year I got drenched, but managed about 8doz or more in less than 45min.
Good luck

I have just the opp. problem.I like a crawler that just covers 3 hooks.I miss a lot of fish from short hits even though i feed a little line back durning a strike.

Has anyone heard of the soaking crawlers in ice/water for 24 hrs. before heading out on a fishing trip. Legend has it, that the crawlers bloat up to a much larger size. I personally haven't tried it yet.

its 1:30 am, I left at 11:20 PM, not counting driving time I picked crawlers on the golf course near me for about 1 hour 45 minutes, I don't know how many I got but they weighed 5 pounds, I know at least over 500, filled a gallon container 2/3 full. any way I was catching them two at a time, about every fourth double one one get away, they were breeding and they didn't pay much attention to the light or movement, some pairs were 8 inch's apart and I would get them because they didn't move after grabbing the ones near them, I wonder if the moon being almost full has them breeding, first time I noticed so many breeding pairs, seen very few singles and they were spooked easy, the breeding ones were like men, blind and defth when it came to breeding.

I pick my own pretty often too. You don't need the best soil in the world because worms are everywhere. Just put your sprinkler on an area for an hour or so about 8:00 at night. Then go out about 10:30 with a flashlight. I bet you'll see some of the biggest crawlers you've ever seen. Also, hoffie1 is right that sometimes a smaller worm works better because they'll nibble the big ones to death. Good luck.

I pick my own crawlers, and then I will usually put them in crushed ice before going fishing. It makes them a liitle bigger, but not huge. I do it mostly because they keep better.

WIGGLER, I did the same thing a week ago, not one crawler, I know the people that own the golf course,I asked them what they had done to the course and they had put fertilzer & weed killer down a day before, went back a week later almost same conditions and picked up 500 or more in a hour 45 minutes, it had rained both days that I had gone out but that weed killer kept them under ground, you wouldn't know it was the same place a few days later when the fertilizer and killer was diluted or asorbed, the crawlers can't take it

Does anyone else call them up with a pitch fork? It only works on the smaller leafworms, which is what comes up for me. Some guys can call up the big nightcrawlers but I have only read about it.
