Ok, my buddy has his last years drawing card which says he has 3 points, now this year he is still unsucessful and the web site says he still has 3 points. I understand that 3 points is the max you can have, but......
Is someone that has been in the drawing for his 5th year going into next years drawing (with the max of 3 points) treated the same as someone that has only been it it for 3 years (and also has 3 points)?
If both are treated equal in the drawing then isn't that a bit unfair that one hunter has tried 5 years in a row and still could be ousted by someone thats only done it 3 years?

It's my understanding that they go by points period and consecutive years of applying don't mean anything, except that you will obviously have more points accumilated.

But, I understand it that you can only have a max.of 3 points even tho you put in for 5 years and would theoritcally have 5 points. This is confirmed by the fact that my buddy 's card from last year said he had 3 points and after this years drawing he still has 3 points according to the DNR. See what I mean about being stuck at 3 points even tho he put in four straight years?

I am not aware of 3 points being the most you can have. I would have your buddy check with the DNR about his points. He should have received a point this year for a total of four if he didn't get a permit.

I had a kill in 2001 baraga, got one again this year for newberry...
so if you change hunt area's/options i think you can get them earlier than 4 years...

I am needless to say intreged by the 3 point standing. I dont think i know anybody that has not drawn a tag in the last 3 years without continuing to apply.
Big game let us know how it is working will you?

The DNR booklet does not mention anything about there being a maximum number of points that you can accumulate. If someone has applied for 4 yrs. and they have not yet been drawn then they should have 4 pts.
Your odds of being drawn are determined by which area and which hunt you apply for. The DNR booklet points this out quite clearly.

There is a point maximum one can have. This is not based on a particular pre-set number; it is based on the number of years that the point system has been in effect. Todays max number of points one can have is 4. Have your buddy call the DNR and see whats up.

the point system is still rigged by the state. my girlfriend has gotten a permitt for the last three years for the same area. amasa 3rd hunt. this is a very popular hunt. in my opinion points mean nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

grizzlyadams73,

According to the 2003 bear hunting guide, almost 34% of the applicants for the third hunt in Amasa last year drew a tag. One in three odds are pretty good, but I think your girlfriend has a lucky bear claw to draw three years in a row. ;)

The best odds for a hunt were for the third hunt in Bergland, 90.1% of the applicants drew. The worse odds are a tie for the first hunts in Baldwin and Drummond areas at 3.8% drawing a tag.

There is no maximum for points accrued. I have a firend who has 4 points. I have 3.

Better contact DNR.
