Had a pretty good evening of fishing today from the pier where I fish (near Peche Isle in the extreme northern end of the river/extreme southern end of LSC). Went out for eyes after the rain. I was throwing a #7 clown shadrap, and I was just catching a few big smallies instead of walleyes. Fun to catch, yes, but not what I wanted. At around 10pm on the nose I had a sharp hit while walking the wall. Immediately I knew it wasnt a bass. No jumps, and a different kind of fight. I glanced down into the water and saw a long silverish sheen, and my heart started racing because I could tell it was a big one. Long story short I got him in the net and it was my biggest eye from that pier in 12 years of fishing it - Just shy of 26". I am guessing it at a solid 4 or 4.5 pounds. Not even close to a trophy fish by Detroit River standards, but it sure was nice to chase away the skunk that had been following me for some time.

That Was yur biggest eye ever??? jeez what a dink!:D i got one twice as big, and handley got one 10lbs+ Good fish, but for the most part, the run is done!

John Boy (MiBow)....that is my biggest from that pier, as I stated in the post. I caught one bigger in the Sagnasty on ice. It was around the same length but much fatter. I do think you are right though...the regulars at the pier have given up, and the numbers of fish being caught are on the downswing.

Good going Steely-Head ! I too love to nail them 'eyes, even catching them 14" does my soul right. Of course, them bigger fishes are a lot more fun (and not to mention you can keep 'em and eat 'em !) but those small, usually slender young 'uns are soo dang pretty ! The future pigs !!! I have been fishing the river all of my life, and my biggest walleye is 25 inches, 5 pounds:rolleyes: , so your not alone!!!:D , i have caught tons, and tons just below that, mainly because, i don't fish for eyes in spring, i go for the pike and perch instead.

nice one you got last nite too. your cursed now for what you did.:mad: anyway...nice job on telling exactly where and how we catch our fish. with a mouth like that, youll never beat that 4 lbr. next time i see you out there were gonna throw you in the river and steal your lures;) ill show you my 14lbr someday. you can druel over it a bit if you want!

p.s. i dont think it would be a good idea to mount john although we all know how badly you want to! haha
