Ok Guys...

I did do a search... and got some ideas... but...

Any additional recommendations on who to get boat insurance from? Someone who might not charge an "arm and a leg". I know there are plenty of them out there... but wanted to see if there were a couple that stood heads above the others.

Any additonal opinions are welcome... thanks in advance!!

This is on my list of things to do also.

I am going to start with AAA (my auto insurance carrier) and State Farm (my homeowners carrier).

I got my insurance through my house insurance people as a rider on my policy. Frankenmuth is their name...I cannot remember what my premiums are, but it's pretty cheap I think...see me this weekend and I'll bring my papers.

I went with a rider on my homeowners as well. It costs about $100 for $6000 worth of coverage. Auto Owners I believe.

Not sure if the insurance companies recognize it or not. The state of Michigan doesn't recgonize internet courses.

Go to places as US Boat and they can get you hooked up or West marine. The Shaffer department down in Monroe dose it. In addition, if I am right the coast guard reserves do it also.

Boat US is far cheaper than any auto insurance company has ever qouted me. When comparing prices between companies be sure your getting the same dollar coverages on medical and theft, liabilty and whatever or your comparing apples to oranges.

DonP,

I'm an insurance agent for one of the companys thats been suggested to you. Whoever you get your policy from just
consider that a boat policy shouldnt be very expensive but it's
not a place to scrimp on price. Most of the time on boats the difference between a great policy with all the bells and whistles and a basic policy with minimal coverage is $20 to $50 for the year but if or when you have a claim the difference in the settlement could be hundreds to thousands. The little extra you pay up front is well worth it when you need it. ( hopefully never!)
