Just got back(yesterday) from two days on the Au Sable, fished Sunday and Monday, so here it is:
Sunday: Left Bay City alittle after 2am, arrived at 4:30. Waited till it was light enough to cast around the snags, and began drifting. To my extreme surprise, didn't hit anything till it was light out. First fish of the trip, a gorgeous brightly colored buck. After him, things were good for me, hit 4 more, landing 3. Moved up a little after people started showing up, nothing. Moved back to my original area, hit 3 more, landing one. Ended the day 5-8, also a couple fouls, and two second headshakers, and one chrome screamer. My bro had a rough trip, he only hooked 2 on Sunday, lost both, including one male that he lost shallow after 15 minutes of battle.
Monday: Started early again, waited till I could see, and got started. Once again, nothin at first light, then hit a 8-9lb hen full of eggs, that I dropped twice, I felt bad about that. After that, I hooked and lost two big, dark males. After that, I lost two more fish, had some foul-hooks, and one or two(can't remember) two-second headshakers, finished the day 1-5. My bro went 0-3, just not his trip.
But all in all, another great trip. There were still decent number's of fish around, seen several silver fish. This is probably my last steelhead trip for the spring, I had a great year, 19 fish landed on 15 trips since February 23, not bad. I released all of my fish on this trip. Tight-lines guys, bring on the kings:D !
