okay, this may be a good or a bad thing...

the marina says to check my thermostat before replacing the impellar for the water pump. I'm getting a good stream of water from the pee spout, but the alarm goes off. He says either the poppit valve is clogged or the thermostat may not be working properly. Since my alarm goes off sporatically on startups, he is thnking it is not the impellar.

Anyone know where I find the thermostat and poppit valve on my motor? and how to change them out?

Thanks,

The pee spout dont matter. My cousin had an alarm, good flow from the peeer, goo temp everything. So his brilliant butt cut the wire. The motor blew about a month later. The alarm was low water pressure to to a deteriated impeller. Just cause you got pee dont mean you are getting water all the way to the top of the motor. I would check. The bottom 2 cylinders looked good the top had no piston in it. Good luck

thanks for the heads up andy! Since the motor is a 1991, I am thinking the impellar IS worn...it has never been replaced. So I am going to tear into it tonight I guess. $56 for a new impellar and gaskets sure beats hundreds on a motor repair or thousands for a new motor.

Still looking for that thermastat and poppit valve. Instructions would be nice!

Slammer, check all the water (inlet especially) ports possible as it can get clogged with zebra muscles and sand. This stuff will be tough to get off as it bonds with the base material.

I'm only experienced with Mercury engines.
Good luck

Is this a v-4 cross flow? I have a 93 90hp v-4 cross flow. So, I will give what i know about mine.

Once you get the cover off( on dry ground), stand behind the engine and look down into the back side where the spark plugs are. I believe you should see 2 black hoses about 3/4 inch diameter and about 3-4 inches long. Follow then down and away from the power head. Where they end is where the thermostat housing is.

Make sure you get the model number of the motor for right parts.

Hope this helps.
