This weekend is the Candian cane rod gathering in Fergus canada and by golley the Grand River just happens to run in that town also. Should have a great weekend learning about boo rods building and hopefully getting in a few nights of fishing. I have on this river three or so times before, done ok but nothing really great and looking forward to seeing if I can "hit" this river right sometime.
Hope all have a great Memorial day weekend

I have fished the upper area, can not name specific holes but above Fergus in the Belwood conservation area? (digging deep in the memories here) down to Fergus. Is it Fergus or Elora that the gorge is right down town? Anyways...I have hunted and pecked at quite a bit of that lenght. Between Fergus and Elora there are public turn outs I seem to hit. For some reason I have not done the Elora gorge much but have headed down to Wilson flats(I think is the correct name) and done some fun there.
The last time we hit the Grand they had just had a huge flooding spring, water line on the trees was a easy 10 ft above our heads including picnic tables and lawn ornaments from yards.
I have seen some dandy fish in that river, just have never hit it on a great hatch.

For the big boys, I would rip some rather large streamers. You may not catch many but they will more than likely be trophies. Be safe and enjoy.

Folks, the gathering was wonderful. I met some top notch boo rod builders, found out quite a few things to try and got the chance to handle, cast and talk with builders like Jeff Wagner, Al Medvet, John Zimmney, Carl O'Conor. Ron Bartch with a casting lesson by John Long, man can that guy cast, and too many other fellas to remember but darn there were some great talks and the rods..oh man I found a few to build this up comming year.

Ok..river.folks, head over as fast as you can the Hendricsons are on NOW>>>> Friday was cold, overcast and windy but a few Hendricksons were hatching near us but at the Railroad bridge and below was heavy duty. We caught a number of smaller fish with streamers and then it was just too cold and dinner time. The rain was going pretty good and it rainned all night and part of Sat. The word on the street was they got two inches over night but the fish wagon kept us dry and out of the weather.

Sat we fished after the seminars after 4:30, caught 9 or so small fish, under 9 inches on a mixture of emergers, spent wings, caddis. Henny spinners came low twice but only a few hit the water, again, we were in the gorge below the campground. We headed over to Bettys for a spagetti dinner and found out most of the guys did about the same.

Sunday was sunny and wonderful looking, it was sure hard listening to the guys talk but the river was full of cars with people fishing so after 5pm we headed the fish wagon toward Michigan and headed home.

One of the old time guides, Volk? came in and said that the river is fishing like it use to 9 years ago, a bit behind what people are use to so right now Hennys are on, March browns are getting set to start plus we saw plenty of crane flies and caddis getting taken.
