Well sounds like i should of been up opening day. Almost was killed this week in west brach but to my dads expirences with driving i manage to stay alive. heres what happened we started sliding down a hill backwards in are van and the ditch was 15 feet and the van turned sideways and missed rolling down the hill by a foot.well got back to are stand around 2:30. looked at some bait ten yards away and a big deer tore the hell out of it. Went to some pines and found a place where a deer was hung. sat down watching eachother back and my dad said daniel and pointed and there standing was a 150 to 175 lb doe.was about to shoot but relize i had no doe permit....never shop at k-mart...they dont know what they r doing with hunting license. next year i am getting a doe permit. then we went back and sat in are stand and when I was just about to does off 2 black THINGs came into r area. they were deer. Pulled up was about to shoot and then got DEER FEVER....dicided not to shott plus i could not tell if theywere bucks or does. They took of runing with like a snorth and then it sounded like a doe when she leaves...could that of been a buck or how do u tell the diff. between a buck or a doe when she takes off....heard about 60 shots...3/4 near by and the rest were far and about 5 double shots. nexy day heard only 25. Boehr answer this please at the end...found a bunch of deer guts..followed the trailed and found out the guy shot over bait...this was in 452....It is right on the edge...what would happen if he was caught...couldnt go 2 a deer check station cause NONE OF THEM WERE OPEN...saw lots of nice deer on the way home.Heres some questions .
what would happen to a 452 baiter.
what happens if u shoot a doe in 452 with a doe tag and it runs into a another dmu.
any tb deer shot this year.
is it legal for a dad to give a youngster the gun to shoot a deer without a license..planning ahead for my kids
when is opening day next year

Well hope everyone had a good year

Stelmon: I never pull a gun up till i am sure of the target . Even if it is a doe and i don't have a doe permit i never point my gun till i am ready to shoot what i am looking at. A bullet is somthing you can never take back :(((

just my 2 cents worth
keep asking your questions though thats the only way you will learn :)))\

A 452 baiter would get a ticket if caught. What the fine ends up being is entirely up to the judge in the county that the person got the ticket.

Shoot a doe and runs into another DMU. Go get it. If you can track it there it's easy enough to track back to where you shot it.

So far I believe there have been 3 TB deer but not positively confirmed yet, all in 452.

Legal to have you son/daughter in the blind with you and let them shoot the deer with your gun (I'm assuming one gun, son doesn't have his own out there without a license). The legal answer no, the common sense answer and what the CO is going to do, nothing. Now if you have you son take their own gun (one of my officers just ticketed a dad for this) and get your son to shoot a doe that you have no permit for and tag it with a buck license (teaching the boy how to violate the law) then you will have a problem.

Opening day is Nov 15, 2001.

Stelmon, Where exactly are you hunting in West Branch? I hunt there on occasion and so does my dad. I'd really appreciate you letting me know when you are going up hunting so I can stay the hell away from that area!
It sounds like you were going to drop a deer then check for antlers! THAT'S GREAT, you are a fine example of a Michigan Sportsman :( Please delete your post, You should be ashamed.

From Stelmons other posts and this one Id guess he is a youngster. Instead of ripping on him maybe we should be trying to educate our future hunters of michigan. I grew up with a father who made you feel stupid for everything you did. Believe me it does no good at all.

That said Stelmon you should not aim at a target unless you plan on shooting it. Even if you are just looking threw the scope of your gun just to look. Remember that where you are aiming is where the bullet goes. I bought a cheap pair of Binoculars so I could check out other hunters and deer and other animals. Never point or aim your gun at anything you dont want to shoot.

When I was younger and starting out I used to aim at deer I didnt intend on shooting even just to practice. Then some one explained not to do this and why. Accidents do happen. Also pass on shots if you have a deer behind the deer you are shooting, or any orange. Thats why I hate people who shoot at runnig deer that jump up, how can they be sure of what is behind there targets when they aim and unload there guns in less than 30 sec.

Stelmon please keep asking questions and dont let people who ripp on you get to you. The only bad question is the one not asked!

Guys let's get this back into being a positive response.

As far as hunting near West Branch I hunted just 5 miles north-west of the downtown area for years along the power lines. There is a hunting association called Lake in the Woods and we were members until the dues got out of control. I never saw another place (except Menominee) that had the number of deer that West Branch had. Agriculture is right outside the town and goes on and on. It was common to count 20 deer during a day.

As far as not hoisting my gun until I am ready to shoot... that is almost a waste of a good scope. I use my scope to survey the brush when nothing is happening around me and am sure a lot of you guys do too. You would be surprised what you miss. Deer are very secretative and can sneak through the smallest vegetation without you even raising an eyebrow.

Please for the sake of us other hunters use your bino's to "scope" the area out. If you are to use your scope it is more than likly atatched to a GUN! If you find hunter orange you are pointing at a hunter. Please use a scope for shooting and binos for looking.

Stelmon, how are you at constuctive criticism. Don't take any of this personally. I know your young, and you get excited, that understandable. There's no doubt in my mind you love hunting/outdoors and that's awesome in my book, but as for your postings, they need a little work. Take a little extra time with your grammer and writing in your post, it will make it more enjoyable for others to read. Now in no way, shape or form am I a specialist at writing, but I do proof read and try to fix my mistakes. Later in life you will have to clean up your writing style, might as well start on this forum. You may blow off my post and not think much of it, thats fine, I never accepted constuctive criticism very well either. But anyway your hearts in the right place, that's the main thing. Always remember while outdoors, saftey is number 1, first, 1st,,,,everything else second. You are going to be, and already are a good sportsman, don't rush anything in the woods. Your going to be around a long time, there's nothing to rush, not even your post's..

Banditto dude please buy a pair of cheap binos for this. You can get a pair at wallmart for under 20$. Even cheaper on ebay!

Your in your spot and settled in. The woods are all peacefull and then you hear a brach break. Just a tiny little noise. You look towards the direction of the noise and see movement. Your heart is pounding and your breathing is picking up. You pick up your gun and look threw the scope towards the direction of the noise. You see a snmall patch of brown. Its real thick that way so you strain to see more of the brown figure. It moves again!!! Your heart is really beating now . The light level is low but its well past legal shooting time. Your finger bumps the trigger and boom gun goes off.

You wait for a half hour becouse your not sure if you hit anything. It all happend so fast. You walk over to were you thought you saw the deer. There lies a a man in a brown carhart jaket and wearing only orange gloves!

I hunt public land and you would be surprised how many idiots I see wearing a brown carhart jackets and no orange.

Im not trying to bust your balls dude but I was tought not to aim my gun at anything unless I was going to shoot it.

Okay, this may make me look stupid but for the sake of Stelmon, I'll tell my story. When I was 15, and still learning the ropes of hunting. I was waiting in anticipation for a deer to enter my view. When suddenly a large brown animal came running into view. Being careless, I raised and aimed my gun, just in case it was a buck. It turned out to be a jogger in a brown sweet suit. This just goes to show that you never know. It is of the utmost responsibility of the hunter to be sure of his target. I learned my lesson and haven't raised my weapon at anything but what I wish to kill since. That's life and we all make mistakes.

Stelmon - hang in there and keep asking the questions. All of us have been in your shoes at one time.

Always use binoculars to check out the area NOT your scope. Anyone that thinks this is a wast of a good scope should just buy the binoculars and forget the scope. I got a lot of game with iron sites before I got my first scope - or binoculars for that matter.
