Well we tried our darndest to get a steely this weekend and no luck. Fished for nearly 17 hours straight. They are just not liking any thing we've thrown at them. I even went down to 3# test and they still shyed away from it. There are fish in the river. I gues I just don't know how to catch them. Saw a few people with 1 or 2 on a stringer but not many. Don't know how they got them to bite if at all???? Don't get me wrong, I enjoy being out on the river before sunup and taking in all the sounds and smells of spring. I'm just getting frustrated with myself for not being able to bring one to shore. Thanks for letting me vent and good luck to those still trying - I'm onto some less frustring fishing ( white bass )

I went 5/6 Saturday, with another 3 that broke me off on the strike. I fished hard from the Whirpool to the Highbanks (stopping just short of the circus), and back. I had to leave when I ran out of spawn bags and did not have any stuff to tie more with me.
I tied my bags big (10-12 Salmon eggs/bag) and used #6 hooks to keep the little planters off my hooks. They worried the bags, but as longs a there were at least 5 or 6 eggs left, the Steelies would still bite.
Sunday I went 4/4. They were not biting well Sunday, but I had a good time.
I probably missed as many strikes as I got on the hook. Saturday there were a ton of people at almost every spot that holds fish. I found a few spots without people, and which held fish. Not a lot of fish in the river for the time of year. All of the Sat fish were spawned out hens. Sunday 2 were males, and they were really beat up from spawning and from having been snagged so many times.
Saw an Eagle a couple times, deer, turkeys, muskrats, a beaver, and bunches of cormorants.
