Well what would be your choice???

Ok here it is. What would you rather have? A real small deer herd and I mean small where you finally see some deer 6 days into the gun season. A total of 12 deer all year so far with some being the same deer being counted.or within 8 square miles around you see two nice bucks taken.

Would you rather see deer more often? I'm not talking everyday but more than 12 deer after hunting really hard all season since oct 1

I would rather see fewer deer and know that I had a chance to get a crack at a big buck than to see herds of deer with no hope of anything bigger than a yearling.

I know what your situation is Marty. I am not sure how old you are, but I do know that you are trying to get you daughter into hunting. She needs to see deer to keep interested. This is the way I see it, and I am not trying to get you down.

How long will the DNR attempt to erradicate the herd to control the TB. How long are you willing to wait until the deer herd gets back to a respectable population? 5 yrs, 10 yrs, 20 yrs, I do not know. My guess is after they stop trying to erraticate the herd, the deer numbers will be so low that they will close the season in your area, or they will do a lottery draw for a single deer tag :( However, there is light at the end of the tunnel. If they do close the season or go to a lottery draw, that means that the bucks will have a chance to grow. When they do finally get things back to a normal season there will be some Bruiser's running around there!

Have you called the DNR and asked them what they are planning to do for the area over the next few years? They must have some sort of game plan for the area. It might be a good place to start.

Just to answer the question without getting into a personal dilemma.
I'de rather see more deer. I've passed up all but one yearling in my life, and many year and a half deer also. To sit there all day and see nothing, gets one frustrated real quick. Even the yearlings at first sight gets the body jumpin. Sure you don't take home any venision but its just fun to have that excitement a few times in the season. Its better than just sit there like a bump on a log.
But understand I won't blame the DNR for the population. Most of them boys are just doing what they get paid for. They have to follow orders too.
Hope my 3&1/2 cent are worth something.

I would like to see a health heard with a 1:1 buck:doe ratio. Also, I would like to see deer on a regular basis. Is this possible, yes.

Interesting points. The fact of tha matter is that hunters want to see deer and if you don't you'd better check your pulse. I don't need to see 20 deer a day but to see a couple every other time out would be nice. I went 26 times straight this year never seen a deer.After that fisaco last year 3 deer in two months

I can see your obvious frustration in this post as well as some responses to my TB thread. Are you really not seeing any deer? I hunt all kinds of places...hundreds and hundreds of acres across the state....private and state land. I see deer all over the place...I mean hundreds during turkey season not that far from you. Are you hunting your own 50 acres and hunting only there? Do you bowhunt? Man if you need some good spots to check out in your proximity...I might be able turn you on to a few areas. What's the story? (26 days does seem a little excessive to say the least.)

Huntnut that's 26 times out thats day night and even midday I even spent all day in the tree before. I see a few deer now and then but mostly the same deer. I have another 120 acres to hunt and its the same. Yea tell me where there's a hundred deer in alcona county I liked to see that even outside my county let me know where......marty
