I'm just about done with a drift boat building project and I have
a good source for anchor chain (60 cents a pd.). I was wondering
how many pds. of chain you guys would reccomend. I'm thinking
maybe 30pds. The boat is 16' long. By the way, this is an excellent
forum. I've been following it for a couple of years now and finally
decided to join.

FREESTONE , Welcome to the site . Im sure you will find answers to your questions here . There are MANY knowledgable people willing to share , and that has always been great .
I too use chain . But I have no idea how much it wieghs . I think it will be different with water height / speed and the amount on drag your boat has .
Good luck with the search for answers , and send us pics of your project when your done .
Good Luck and Safe Trips ....and again , WELCOME ..... Walldady

welcome to the site freestone. i have a 16 foot deep v and i use 40#. so you would not need more than that. 30# sounds good. i use it in the bmr. if you end up a little light in current you can just run your rope out longer. ;)

#30 sounds about right.
Some river bottoms may require less, some more. Gravel is a monster to anchor on. It's like walking on marbles. :D
In sand, clay, muck and slower water, 20 could be enough. I attach a shackle to each strand and add/subtract as necessary. No need to hoist more than you need.
When you get it done, please take a picture of your boat. I'm sure many would like to see it.
