going 2/23/01 to higgins i don't know what to believe smelt by the buckets or getting them a few at a time if anybody has any info it woould be app.any info would be great,thanks alot,crow

Well Crow if you catch a fish everytime one bites maybe you can catch 200 but they are hitting pretty good. The best I've done is 169 in a little over 8 hrs so go figure.

DOUGHBOY! JUST HOW BIG ARE THESE SMELT YOU ARE CATCHING? I REMEMBER MANY YEARS AGO HAVING SMELT THAT WERE 7 TO NINE INCHES IN SIZE. THAT WAS WHEN PT PEELY (SP) WAS THE PLACE TO GO.

Higgins lake smelt are all pretty good in size at least for me, majority are between 7-8 inches and you do get some that are 6 inches and some that might get close to 9. But staying out 8 hours for smelt, thats one long time, I commend you for that. Good Luck

Fished Higgins today. Saw plenty of smelt but am still trying to learn how to catch them. Caught about a dozen and a few perch.
