Went up to the AuSable for some fishing. 2 of us fished from 3:00 until 10:00 (one until 9:00). I had one fish on long enough to tell it was really heavy, then it was gone. That was about 4:00 in the afternoon. I saw one fish caught- a walleye about 6" long. Other than that, I saw no fish even hooked, even by the guys in boats. :(
Bad news is that my dad's tackle box was on a boulder that was slightly slanted. After fishing for about 1.5 hours in this location, I heard something and turned around in time to see it slide off, impact another rock, come open and lures fly out like the burst from a firework on the 4th of july, and then hit the water. We got most of them, as I got to the box quick enough that it didn't fill with water and sink or tip over, and I hooked several more lures by exploring the bottom with the net. Just a word of caution to the guys that fish the area- find a fairly level rock to put your box on!
BTW, if you feel you really must troll the river in front of the people fishing all up and down the pier, please don't long-line. :(
What the heck is up with the fish this year? Aside from smelt and dink perch, my sum total for the year has been one 16" brown trout out of several trips and many, many hours of fishing. Anybody else having a sucky year so far?
