Problem or is it? I have a Johnson 9.5 and I noticed for the second time a white froth in very small amounts coming out of the holes right above the prop. The first time it happened I freaked got home and checked the lower unit for water and it looked clean and fresh. A guy a work said it was just the lube that we had put on the impeller when we replaced the water pump. Sounded ok to me and like I said the oil did look clean. Well it happened again when I pulled it out tonight. Small amounts of the white froth came dropping out of a opening right above the prop. This time I took the time to smell it and it had the odor of fuel. Could this be fuel? I have no Idea as to what’s going on.

at this point if the lube in your lower end looks good,I would just keep an eye on it,,it could just be the lube you used on the impeller,,Dose your engine exhaust from the prop or just above it? I am not sure if you are looking at the exaust port or your water intake?
If it smells like gas it might be from you exaust,,but keep in mind that a lot of lube has a pretty strong smell to it,,,do you have some of the lube you can smell for a comparison?

Well I’m going to have to take a closer look. I’m also going to check the lube again just to make sure. I talked to one of the guys at work and he thinks it’s just some of the additives that they put in the two cycle making it through the engine. Reason being that it dissipates once it hit the ground.

i went out and looked at mine today and it had some gas down there next to that weep hole. i looked at the plastic can and it was all puffed up. i opened the cap and relieved the pressure. was your gas line still connected? mine has done this before. if i leave the gas line connected it will leak through there. i dont know if it is leaking form the carb or where but it does leak when under pressure.:)

My Merc 8 hp 2 stroke does the same thing. I think it is excess oil from the gas /oil mix. My lower unit is fine. Just a darn dirty 2 stroke in my book. I think mine comes from the exhaust port just above the prop.
