After some 85 hours on various Michigan rivers, through numerous negative temperature days, I finally caught my first steelhead. Hit the high banks saturday morning at 4:00 am and had her landed at 4:05 am (2nd cast). Unfortunately I was using my salmon rod so it wasnt much of a fight but darned exciting! Got her on an orange spawn bag. What a way to start the day huh? About 3 hours later I got me a beautiful male that was just a blast. My buddy was fishing some shallows with a size 4 spinner and missed a female. Being greedy, I thought I would join him and see if I could have any luck. Tied on a size 6 yellow and silver panther martin and before I knew it my bud is yelling "keep reeling keep reelin." As I followed the spinner I saw the fish zero in on the lure for about 15 feet and "WHAMMMM". Had the 6wt fly rod in hand and just kinda held on with a grin from ear to ear. Then the sun came up and the sky turned blue and that was it for the day. Had the pleasure of meeting lots of really helpful and just plain freindly people on the river and look forward to another adventure. Thanks to my other partner Corky for putting us on the fish and planning the whole day. I thought I was hooked before, now I am an absolute addict! Good luck to all. Hopefully I can figure out how to post a picture and share my joy with you all.

What are the odds of Brendan hooking three fish in one day. He hasn't hooked three fish in a season.

Riverboy. Brendan and I will be in Mio on the weekend of June 14 if you want to hook up for some trout action (maybe even steel action the way this season is turning out).

Hey that sounds good Ill be up probably be up there around that time too. Brendan, your dad, and I fished the ausable last year around that time too. You dad was definitly a trooper walking those step hill banks with a arm in a sling. When we heard him scream in agony we ran as fast as we could to find he had fallen trying to walk up the trail a little. But I think the trout he had caught helped him forget about the pain!

Lets plan on it! It should be close to the brown drakes as well! You or your brother send me a email when the time gets closer!
