I ordered about 50 trees from the county, my question is, do they need to be protected w/ chicken wire to keep the critters from eating them as seedlings? They vary from white pine to oak and walnut. Thanks for any help offered, The Nailer.

I have the same question. But I am not planning on doing any thing to protect the white oak and walnut seedlings. My concern is for the berry shrubs that I also have coming. I thought I read in an earlier posting in this forum that the deer ate the bushes before that had a chance to take hold. I guess I will just play them and cross my fingers. Then if I see them start get damaged, I will look at some fencing.

All in all the deer left my white and red pines alone. As berry bushes goes it would be a good idea to cover them with some chicken wire or some type of fencing. Also if you plan to plant any apple trees for sure cover them or the deer will eat them no doubt. My bud planted 40 trees last year and the deer had a feast on them. Good luck......marty
