Howdy-

I and my son are going on a canoing/camping trip the first 3 days of August (through our church.)

I have no info yet other than the dates, and that it will be on the Au Sable.

Two absolute beginners, armed with trusty Zebco's and all the high-tech lures one finds in those K-Mart rod/reel packages...

What do I use to try and hook what?

Would really like Connor to catch something we can get a photo of, and possibly a keeper to eat??? Obviously, I am not even sure if this is a C & R area/ river or not......

Hi Les,

August makes for tough trout fishing on the Au Sable.

What section are you canoeing? Hopefully the "upper 1/2"

Howdy, Ralf-

No idea just where yet....I'll post a follow-up as soon as I know.

Try to float above Mio.

The ponds have a tendancy to super-heat the water beyond the trout's preference. Their activity will be very limited.

Les,

If you are going on the weekend with a canoe livery, your chances of catching a fish will be slim. In August the river is fairly warm and there are ALOT of people partying on it. Hardly a good atmosphere to lure a fish! It may be a set up for dissapointment. I would emphisize a good time, enjoying the camping and canoeing and downplay the fishing!

Les,

I have a spot for you. Easily fished and it holds fish year round. Canoes are not an issue here. Shoot me a PM when you get a chance.
