Went up to the Ausable Friday and Saturday. My Brother in law and I fished from the whirl pool to the Boyscout all the way up to the clay banks. We saw fish at about every gravel bed along hte way. Most looked like they had been in there a while. Not too many fresh chrome. I was able to have four stike just at dusk. But with so many logs and hang ups It was some pretty short battles. We met some great fisherman up there though. Thanks Brent for all the tips you helped me with. I sure hope you mount that fish after going for a swim and nearly losing all your gear ( ha ha );) .I wanted to apologize again for not being an able net man. It was also nice to meet you up there Slammer. We tried the corkies and wax worms but to no avail. I will say that it did help to prevent snagging all that debris though. It was great to see people go out of there way and help each other out. There was a family in a drift boat who helped Brent land a nice steely who had found a birch log to get wrapped around. They must have tried for 20 minutes to get that fish and were finally able to net it. If not for them he would have surely had to cut it off. Weekend total was 0 for 6, and my brother in law was 0 for 3. Fish or no fish - I wouldn't call it a wasted trip in any way though, great weather, great people, and awsome sceanery. Sorry for the long post -
