Floated from mio to commin's yesterday, after hearing the weather report i really didnt expect to good of a trip wow was i wrong. We got up in the morning, i put on my fleece and went outside for a smoke and couldnt believe it when i walked out on to the cabins porch. It was already close to 70 degree's and gettin warmer, the sun was shining and there was no wind at all,i went back inside kicked my buddy in the ***** and told him the trout were waitin:D we arived at the river and got under way around 12:30 we stopped just down from the launch and i fished a caddis dry #16 and on the first drift missed a fish, first dry fly take of the year...i must be a little rusty from the winter;) we fished for a few more minute's and i took a rainbow of about 10",my buddy took 2 rainbow's 6,10" we then floated to the next spot it was around 2 o'clock and some hendricksons were begining to come off but no fish were rising to them. After fishing here with no success we floated to a island and broke out the coleman stove and fired up a killer shore lunch and some fine cigar's(life's hard;) )after floating a little farther we started to see some fish rise so we pulled over and fished a hendrickson dry, we managed a few more 12" rainbow's and i got my buddy(mike) to put down the spinning rod and pick up my extra sage 5wt and start casting. Mike had never fly fished before this and after a few minute's he was making decent enough cast to fool a trout but he still has to get the feel for the hookset so he was a little late on the set and the trout said cya! as we still had a good hour or more to the take out and the clear sky and sunset gave way to some pretty dark cloud's and thunder we started rowing to the launch tryin to beat the rain.........Not gonna happen,we got dumped on,it only lasted for about twenty minute's thankfully.
as we got near commin's we turned the corner and i saw the BIGGEST hatch of hendricksons i think i have ever seen, there must have been a million mayfly's in the air and some spinners on the water....it looked like it was snowing there where so many of them, at one point mike (he has the gift for gab) was in the front of the boat talkin and started coughin like crazy till he spit out a hendrickson:eek: i almost rolled out of my seat laughing. We fished the hatch some but there were just so many of the real thing on the water your fly would get lost in the sea of henny's, as we loaded the boat on the trailer i looked back at the river and fish where rising all over the place, nothing large that i could see but still a neat site to see. So we didnt get any monster's(although we saw a picture of a recently caught 28 1/2" monster) but it was a very enjoyable day with a very good friend who i have know for most of my life, and i think i converted him to the fly rod cus as we loaded the boat he said ,"that was awsome when can we do this again":D
