there aren't too many of us on this site that haven't had at least two of those reels in our lives.
there are still some professional bass fishermen that still use them to this day. the bassmasters classic was won using the zebco 33 when it was on lake michigan in chicago a couple years ago.
wouldn't mind getting one myself to use every once in a while.

Zebco 33's are a classic! I keep a couple in my boat for clients, just in case. You can't go wrong with them.

I have used Zebco reels most of my life. Yes they are a bit less pricey than others ... but they have never let me down.

Zebco Rhino 33 - is the best all around reel there is as far as I'm concerned. They hold up and are easy to use for even a first time fishman.

Caught many fish on the old Zebco 33, my dad used 'em till he day he died in the early 70's. After many years of pickin' out backlashes and getting our knuckles busted by the old castin' reels (Pfluger's and Bronsons) back in the 50's, the 33's were a welcome sight.
Have thought about breakin' one out on occassion for crankin' they have a low gear ratio and a small spool.

yes he was, TBone.......a zebco 33. he didn't use it exclusively, but in certain situations, he had to have it.
i read this in an article in BASS TIMES....if i can dig it up, i'll quote it.
i may have to get a couple and use them for a couple years before my son gets old enough to go with me and fish. he is 10 months old now, so it won't be long at all........HOPEFULLY.

I read a few articles that said he was having to put his tube within 3 inches of the wall that he was fishing and use 6 lb line or he wasn't getting bit. I wonder if he was using his 33 for that or spinning gear. I would think the spinning gear, but you never know. . .
Thanks for the interesting info.

I was glad to see this post. Been out with my 5 year old 3 times already this year, and his Zebco 202 which comes with many kids poles just don't cut it. I definitely plan to upgrade him to something decent like a 33. Instead of fishing I'm disassembling reels. The other night I thaught to myself that Zebco takes all this credit for introducing kids and families to fishing, but what they actually do is turn people off to fishing because of this cheap junk. I realize this is their lowest line, but I am suprised they even put their names on it.

Just bought my 3 yo daughter her first reel and of course its a 33. She has been practice casting (between using it for a weed whip and beating on my Lab) with an ice fishing pole. She has been getting pretty good at it too! Pretty soon it'll be time to try it out for real!! Have to bring the camcorder for that.I had the zebco 22 (? it was blk/wht) for my first reel. Up graded to the 33 with my lawnmowing $$ and its been down hill ever since!!
Man,that is a huge cat. Never seen anything like that around these parts....

Oh the memories! Growing up trolling for pike. Rowing for a motor and reeling in the pike on my zebco 202. Reach out pull in with hand reel up slack real fast, reach out pull in with hand reel up slack real fast. Many a big fish caught this way. Maybe cheap but it put a smile on this boys face more than once.

You know I think most Spin Cast reels in general are godd some better than others but for a beginner cant beat them. I just bought my girlfriend who has barely ever fished before in her life a new spincast reel and put it on a Ugly stick since they are nearly undestructable for her to learn to fish. And this past weekend she caught a 5lb bass on it and she got to fish for hours without ever getting one loop in the line or birdsnest. I had her try a spinning reel last year but to a beginner they don't really understand to watch out for those little twists that can cause a big problem. So she got to finally enjoy fishing and not me trying to untagle her line all the time. She was excited to catch that bass and a few smaller ones. TO me those reels are a blessing in teaching people about fishing.

got to put the 33 on the little ones pole tonight. I got the hawg but the drag is a little weird so she and the wife will get a 33 and I'll get a chance to fish instead of fixing the birds nest on the open faces.
That cat has had more than 9 lives. It makes good crow bait though.

Jeeeez! Wil you guys keep your voices down???
I've got my wife believing the $115 Shimano is a necessary tool for big fish...and every year when I bring home the small ones;" I need a new Reel"!lol:D

Same basic design only bigger.
Thats what we used to use for catfish down south.
Don't even know if they make them any more.
