View Full Version : OakCo's Maceday & Cass, Why Underfished?
Looking at the DNR records, Maceday is stocked with lakers and rainbows. Cass is stocked with lakers, rainbows and lots of walleye. But I don't see many winter anglers going after these fish. Is there a reason? Anybody have any luck catching them?

Nick, I've fished Cass at least 10 times (thru the ice only) for walleyes over the last ten years and have never had a bite. I've taken 3 other guys and put out tip ups, I've jigged. I've tried all over the lake. The humps towards the west end, the bay out from the boat launch, off the beach area, the bay off the beach area, the point on the far side of the lake from the beach. One buddy caught one 13" walleye off that point. The last time I was there, must have been 3 yrs ago, my same buddy lost a huge eye on a tip up, broke it off at the hole. That was out on the far side of the humps. That's it. I gave up on it. I know there are guys who get some nice fish on live bait rigs working the drop off but thats all I've ever heard about. One of the problems there is there is alot of water that is either real shallow or real deep and most of the drop offs are very fast, plus most of the water over 10 ft, the bottom is mud. If I lived closer I'd try it once in a while but I've been going to the bay or Sag River instead. If you fish it I hope you do better than I have. I know there are some pigs in there, the bait fish are there for them. I used to catch some nice pike on tip ups right in the narrows leading from the Guts to the main lake.(watch the current, the river dumps in there) Also I've heard guys get some real nice specs but I don't know where at. Good luck.
