Well talked to the wife and we will be in oscoda this weekend. ( sorry East bay ED Hubbard lake will be for another weekend and I have a few people that all want to come up in a few weeks so i'll be in contact though.) ANy way I'll be all over while I'm there but I'd like to know where and how to bank fish for the trout. I've seen the guys casting cleos and floating spawn. Do they float minnows and smelt under bobbers also? Is there a good way to tight line that area and if yo do surf fish do you need to wade out and then cast? I have used the countdowns at the mouth and gotten a few Walleye in the past so I know about that. Does anyone ever get salmon from shore this time of year up there and if so thats what she would like to catch it would be her first. ( she loves fishing but hates boats on the big lake so a guide is out unless someone thinks they can change her mind.) I know about the high banks and the damn but she is not very good in the river so shed prefer to sit on the bank or a pier and cast lures and watch bobbers or tight lines.

I've seen just about everything but the kitchen sink thrown off the pier there but I dont think I've seen minnows under bobbers, ususally its spawn or crawlers.
If your going to tightline for brown's from shore you should wade out and cast, if not you wont get into deep enough water to catch anything.

There's still a good to excellent possibility of catching browns and steelhead from the pier. You may even encounter a walleye.
Spoons, spawn and smelt would be my choice of bait.
I would have to agree with Burksee. Ask Bobby.
The area around the Dead Au Sable holds some browns for surf-fishing, but the beach is private, as does the beach just to north of the North Pier. There's still plenty of fish in the river according to the reports. Your timing is good.
Keep us posted. :)
