Went to pontiac and loon lake in oakland county satuday(late report). Got to pontiac at about 1:30pm and it was pretty windy, in our kayaks, that was terrible. We went on the western side of the lake with only a few small bass to show for it. Discided to skip to loon lake. From about 6:30 or so to sunset, we got about a dozen crappies(101/2-12), a nice gill(9"), a couple small bass, and lost a monster pike. Didn't find the crappie hole until late, so could only get just enough for a good meal, but, still ALOT better than pontiac, and saved our day. All fish were caught on small 1/32 ounce jigs, and ultra lites. I will post the pic as soon as i can find the cord to the camera.;)

Nice catch and pic. They'll be tasty! Ive been searching my local lake for crappie and have not got into any yet. Maybe it has none. How deep did you find them? Havent caught many crappie so I dont really know what im doing right or wrong? Do you fish them like your ice fishing? Minnows, waxies?

minnows and tiny jigs under floats have been my favorite approach for the tasty crappie.

you can also use smaller beetle spins, twister tails, small crankbaits and rapalas, etc.

weeds, wood, docks and brushpiles are the normal targets.

what lake in your area are you fishing?

just remember...crappie ALWAYS feed up......don't fish too deep.

JSTFISH, they tasted exellent!!!!! Subocto, i was fishing anywhere from 5-20 or 25 feet deep. I just look for flats, and fish the very deep high weeds around the flat. didn't find the 25' weeds until the last second. Wood piles is another great place to look, but they seem to love deep weeds. I always usually use small jigs 1/32 ounce, mainly because they work as good, or, almost as good as bait, and sometimes better. And, i a kayak, minnows is a big hasile

swan lake in northville between 7 and 8 mile rds. it is small private surrounded by apartments. old gravel pit flooded and developed. drops off to deep water very quickly all around, so far only bass, perch, and gills. thanks for the crappie pointers, if i get into any ill post it. :)

Hey Kevin,
Is that the Loon lake, off of Wixom Rd? I heard there
were some decent sized gills and crappie in there. I always
wanted to try it through the ice, but not knowing the lake can
make for difficult times,,,, through the ice.
